Today is the day! Mr. and Mrs. Treu will be picking Tom up at the Mineral Wells facility this morning and heading to Brownsville with him. Thank God.
Welcome home, Tom. We missed you. What shall we cook first?

A Visit With Tom
Friends,
Rita Tyler-Aguilar and I drove to Beeville Saturday morning for a two-hour visit with Tom. We were pleased to be allowed to have a "contact" visit--for me (Traci) it was a first. I was accustomed to the glass/telephone type visit. How nice it was to be able to hug Tom.
The "campus" at Beeville seemed a lot more laid back and casual. Perhaps that has something to do with visiting at a trusty facility rather than the traditional model. We chatted, served Diet Cokes and junk food and enjoyed each others' company for a very short two hours. We were all surprised when the attendant told us that our time was up.
Tom is buoyant over his upcoming parole and is excited to plan for all the things he will be doing in September. The first item on the agenda is a stop in Robstown for some Joe Cotten's Barbeque followed by the main event at King's Inn. He plans to eat his way back to the Valley! Since we are who we are, we spent a lot of timing talking about what we'll be cooking and eating--Tom has been clipping recipes from his magazines for a while now and will be looking to prepare each of them in short order.
There is still time to visit in Beeville. It's a good experience, and I recommend it.

Parole Granted!
Dear Friends,
I just heard from Rita Aguilar that Tom's parole was granted and that he is scheduled for release in September. What great news!
Tom's parents visited last weekend and are scheduled to be there again this weekend on their trip back home. Tom wrote that the visit was wonderful.
I'll keep you posted if any other news surfaces.

A letter from Tom: January 12
Dear Friends,
I am posting Tom's letter to me even though it may not be entirely relevant to everyone else.
Dear Traci & Rick,
Thanks for your email. I received it last night. And yes it is now the second one I've received. Now not only my dad emails but you and Bobby R have sent them. I received one the other day that was sent at 3:05 p.m. and got it that night. It's a much quicker way of communicating even if I have to respond I can get a letter in the mail the next morning - as they pick up our mail each morning at 7:00 a.m. and it should go out that same day.
Bobby indicated that I am currently under review even though I haven't seen parole which is okay by me. He also received everyone's support letters (Eric included) and plans to send it off sometime very soon. Maybe I already mentioned it but my friend from Alamo received his parole and will be leaving in the next few weeks. I told him I would ask - do you know anyone who hires men to work offshore? He's done that before. If so maybe you can send me a name and an address so he can contact them.
He got parole without any parole packet, support letters or job--go figure. I think Arnold said a while back that when it's your time to go you will go. I'm guessing Arnold's busy as Bobby said he would be putting this year's packet together. At least I have the two of them looking out for that packet. And thanks for offering to call the parole member (Mr. Garcia). I know Mr. Aliseda in the San Antonio region scheduled calls from family and friends. Hopefully it is the same procedure in the Huntsville Region and he will accept your call.
Thanks again for the new shipment of books and for contacting the newspaper. Keep me posted on your progress with parole. I'm getting excited about the prospect of leaving.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Tom

Tom has e-mail
Dear Friends,
For those of you who would like to communicate with Tom via e-mail, good news. You now have that option!
I tried it out last night. Just go to http://jpay.com and set up an account. You can then compose and send emails from that site for $.44 per page, and a page holds a lot of text. This is so much more convenient than snail mail, and Tom gets it more quickly, too.
You can even send attachments. This service rocks. Enjoy.

A Letter - December 13
Dear Traci and Rick,
How are you doing? I hope enjoying the holiday season. Thank you so much for the books you sent me last week. What a nice Christmas present. I'm really liking those two authors. It was such a nice surprise.
Did I tell you that I was moved to Trusty Quarters located just outside the unit? There are 60 of us in a giant warehouse type building--we each have our own cubicle with a writing table. All of us are Trustys. As you can probably tell I like it so much better. No bars!
This is my last week of class before we will break until January 5. I guess I will work mornings as well as afternoons. We'll be off the 24th and 25th and possibly 1/2 day on the 23rd. I'll be ready to get back to my routine though, but thankfully I'll have books to read. We're supposed to have "lock down" (rumor had it for today but it didn't happen). There was a guy who escaped and was later caught and they (Senator Whitmire) asked for a statewide lockdown. That usually means a week of nothing to do but read--so I'll be ready.
I made Mexican rice over the weekend with sausage fajitas with a guy who is here from Alamo. I got a bag of the instant rice, used a couple squirts of ketchup, added a chopped jalapeno and some salsa then added boiling water and voila--it looked good and tasted better. That combined with the sliced sausage fajitas in bbq sauce made us a nice meal.
Merry Christmas--write when you have time!
